Quarantine Diaries: Donuts.

Donuts:

Donuts is a very famous dessert, loved mostly by kids. It is very easy to make and even great in taste. So let's start. You may fry or bake them, all that depends on you.



Ingredients:

For Dough:

  • 1 egg.
  • 3 tbsp butter at room temperature.
  • 2 cups all purpose flour.
  • 3 tbsp sugar.
  • Milk (Luke warm required for kneading).
  • 2 tsp yeast.
  • Quarter cup water (for yeast activation).
  • 3 tbsp milk powder(optional).
  • oil for frying.

For Chocolate glazing:

  • 3 tbsp coco powder.
  • 6 tbsp ground sugar.
  • 1/2 cup cream.
  • 2-3 tbsp milk (as required for maintaining consistency of glaze).
  • Sprinkles for decoration.

Method:

  1. In a glass add luke warm water and yeast, mix the yeast and cover the glass with a lid and wait for about 20 minutes until the yeast rises.
  2. Meanwhile in a bowl, add the flour, egg, sugar, butter and milk powder, give it a mix with help of a spatula.
  3. Next add in the activated yeast in the bowl and knead a dough by adding in luke warm milk until the batter takes shape of a soft and smooth dough.
  4. This is the most important step so be patient and gentle in kneading the dough,
  5. Next cover the dough with cling film and place in a warm place for 2 hours.
  6. After the dough rises take it out on a clean shelf and with help of a rolling pin and flour shape it in a big round shaped chappati.
  7. Next take two different sized circular lids, for the inner hole of donuts you make take a lid of any soft drink and for the larger hole you make take the lid of any larger jar.
  8. Next cut out the donut shape with help of the lids, once you have cut out all the donuts place them on a tray and let them rest for 20 minutes until the donuts rise a bit.
  9. Next heat oil in a pan at medium low flame.
  10. And fry the donuts until they turn golden brown, remember not to fry outdone on low flame as they may absorb all the oil.
  11. You may also bake the donuts at an oven preheated at 180 degrees, you may bake for 20-25 minutes until they are cooked. ( remember to change the side of donuts after 12 minutes, so that they are evenly cooked from both sides).
  12. Next for the chocolate glazing, in a frying pan at low flame add cream, coco powder, sugar and milk and whisk with help of a whisk.You may adjust the consistency by adding milk. Glazing is made within 5 minutes or so.
  13. Dip the donuts into the chocolate glazing and arrange them on a tray to let dry.
  14. Decorate donuts as you like, with sprinkles or chocolate chips.
  15. Serve with tea or coffee and Enjoy!
