Easiest Marble Cake Recipe

Marble Cake:

A very easy and delicious recipe to make a spongy marble cake at home. Just follow the exact measurements and you won't stand a chance in messing it up ever. Marble cake means that you divide the cake dough into two halves/portions and then pour it in two different bowls. And in one portion you add coco powder. Then pour this chocolate batter portion on the top of the white batter portion and then make design using a toothpick and then marble design can be made easily. So lets get started.

Ingredients:

  • 5 tbsp butter.
  • 8 tbsp milk.
  • 12 tbsp sugar.
  • 12 tbsp all purpose flour.
  • 1/2 tsp salt.
  • 4 eggs (yolks and whites separated).
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla essence.
  • 8 x 1½ inch round cake pan.
  • 4 tbsp coco powder.
  • 1 tbsp nutella optional.

Method:

  1. In a sauce pan, heat the butter and then add milk and 4 tbsp sugar, stir well until melted. Turn off the heat and then add egg yolks one at a time. and beat for a few seconds.Also add the vanilla essence in it.  Next sift in the flour gradually while folding with help of a spatula, once the batter turns smooth then whisk it with an egg beater for 2 minutes. 
  2. Now in a separate bowl, add the egg whites and beat until smooth and foamy, after this step slowly add sugar(8 tbsp in total) a tbsp at a time and keep beating until the egg whites turn stiff and white in colour(about 3 minutes). This stage can be judged by turning the bowl upside down but the egg whites will be so stiff that they won't spill out.
  3. Now gradually add this egg white mixture in the flour batter you made earlier. At this point use a spatula for folding the egg whites into the batter. Fold until a smooth batter is obtained. 
  4. Grease the pan with help of a brush using oil/butter. Or you may place butter paper in the pan.
  5. Now at this step separate half of the batter into the baking pan, and the other half in a separate bowl.
  6. Inside the batter that you separated in the bowl add in the coco powder and nutella and mix well with the a manual whisk/spatula/spoon, but don't whisk with an egg beater.
  7. Now pour this chocolate batter carefully in the centre of the baking pan that already contains half of the batter (without the coco powder, that is white in colour). Now with help of the tooth pick make a design that gives textures like of a marble tile. Smooth the top surface of the cake batter with help of a spatula.
  8. Meanwhile preheat the oven on 130 degrees and place the baking pan in hot water bath in the oven.
  9. Hot water bath: In a large pan add in water, and then place the cake pan in that water tub such that the water reaches till the centre of the baking pan's exterior.Adjust the water accordingly, Hot bath are made to prevent the cake from burning it's base.
  10. Bake the cake for exact 40 minutes. You may check whether the cake is cooked by piercing a tooth pick in the centre of the cake and if it comes out smooth the cake is done otherwise leave for 4-5 minutes and repeat the checking process.
  11. Once the cake is done, take it out of the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes and then separate it from the baking pan. Serve with tea.
