Smoked Chicken Drumsticks:
Chicken drumsticks is a very easy recipe for beginners plus it is very delicious. I mostly make it in Ramadan in the Iftaar. Everybody in my family loves it. I personally am very concerned about the fact that the drumsticks i make should be properly cooked and not raw. For that i first steam them and then fry them in oil. I also tend to make completely steamed drumsticks but sometimes a little fry stuff is good. So lets head into the recipe.
Ingredients:
- 8 Drumsticks cleaned and pat dry.
- 1 tsp chopped garlic.
- 1 tsp red chilli flakes.
- 1 tsp paprika powder.
- 1 tsp coriander powder.
- 1/2 tsp cumin powder.
- 1/3rd tsp salt.
- 2 lemons squeezed.
- A pinch of orange colour.
- 2 tbsp oil.
- 1/2 tsp oregano (optional)
Oil for frying.
1 small piece of coal.
Method:
- Make slits in drumsticks to let the spice marinate nicely within the chicken.
- Next mix all the spices as mentioned above (in bullet form) and let the marinate rest for about an hour.
- After that in a deep dish pot add in about half a cup water and let boil.
- Once the water has boiled, then if you have a steam tray /basket slowly place the drumsticks on the tray or otherwise you may directly place the drumsticks in the pot but in this case there are chances that the spice may reduce because of direct contact with the water.
- Once you have placed the drumsticks in the pot, cover it with lid for exactly 15 minutes on slow flame.
- Meanwhile take a small piece of coal and place it directly on the burner of the stove, and let it burn until it is lit.
- Make a small cup out of the aluminium foil and place the coal on it once it is burned/lit.
- Next fry the drumstick in heated oil at medium flame for 7-8 minutes.
- Drain the excess oil on kitchen towel once removed the drumstick from oil.
- Next arrange the drumsticks in a dish while keeping space for the coal in the centre.
- Place the coal cup in the centre, add a tsp of oil on it and then immediately cover the dish with a lid so that the fumes get diffused into the drumsticks.
- You may serve the drumsticks with steamed vegetables, for that in a fry pan add a table spoon of oil and then add in the sliced onions (in form of rings or circles) and capsicum. Season with salt, red chilli flakes and pepper.Cover with lid for 7 minutes and once translucent they are done.
- You may then serve the drumsticks on bed of the steamed veggies.
- And you are done!
